Port Moody to Close its Post Office in October

The Crown Corporation will close the city’s post office at the corner of Mary and Clarke Street this October.  Canada Post spokesperson John Caines quoted, “The building we were in wasn’t really suitable to stay in…” After considering many options it has been decided that the post office will be moved to Port Coquitlam. This can pose a problem for Port Moody citizens, especially seniors, who often go to this office to collect large parcels.

The property will be sold in due time.

BC Unemployment Rate Dips in March

The unemployment rate in BC fell from 6% to 5.8% last month as around 5700 jobs (mostly part-time) were added to the economy. Majority of the jobs were added to the transportation and warehousing sectors, which saw 7600 jobs being added last year in BC. According to Statistics Canada while there are fewer people working in construction, public administration and agriculture, the number of workers in retail, educational services, warehousing, transportation and natural resources has gone up.

http://www.vancouversun.com/business/Unemployment+rate+stays+cent+March+Statistics+Canada/10961258/story.html

Overall the Canadian economy gained 28,700 jobs in March, far more than what was predicted. Given the slump in the oil prices, this has been an unexpected yet welcome development. In a research note Scotiabank quoted that, “There are more payroll employees and fewer self-employed in March, a trend we view as positive.”

What Drives BC Employees to Switch Jobs?

According to a new study by Randstad Canada one in four British Columbians is looking for a job. And the reasons are not just monetary. 41% said they were interested in switching jobs due to lack of growth. Companies that provided a flexible work schedule as well as work-life balance reported lower attrition rates. A BMO report stated that companies that provided the option to telecommute had employees with higher productivity and work quality.
